Anxiety and Overthinking

When your mind won't slow down

You replay conversations, run through every worst case, and lie awake making lists. From the outside you look capable. On the inside, your mind rarely gets a break. Anxiety is more than worry. It is your body and brain treating everyday uncertainty as a threat.

Understanding anxiety

Anxiety is the nervous system's alarm. It is built to protect you, but it can start going off when there is no real danger. Common signs include:

  • Racing or looping thoughts, especially at night

  • Trouble deciding, or second-guessing decisions once made

  • Muscle tension, a tight chest, stomach upset or fatigue

  • Irritability and trouble concentrating

  • Avoiding situations, people or tasks that feel uncertain

Overthinking feels like problem-solving, but it rarely solves anything. Each round of analysis brings short relief, then more doubt. Over time, the brain learns that it needs to think harder to feel safe. That cycle can be unlearned.

How we help at The Therapy Cove

We start by understanding what your anxiety is trying to protect you from and what keeps it going. From there, our clinicians help you:

Notice thought patterns and challenge the ones keeping you stuck

Notice where anxiety shows up in your body and use somatic (body-based) tools to settle your nervous system

Practice tolerating uncertainty instead of trying to think your way out of it

Look at the deeper beliefs, roles and pressures that fuel the worry

Our work is integrative and direct. You will leave sessions with new perspectives and concrete steps, not just a place to vent.

Take the first step.
