Reunification and Co-Parenting Therapy in Toms River, NJ

Structured, child-focused support for families after high-conflict separation or estrangement.

When a parent and child have lost their connection, or two parents cannot talk without a fight, the kids carry the weight. The Therapy Cove offers three related services for these families: reunification therapy, co-parenting therapy, and parent coordination.

This work is led by Kate Williams, MSW, LCSW, CRFS, the practice owner. Kate is a Certified Reunification Family Specialist (CRFS) with continuing education in coercive control and modern co-parenting methods, and she has completed court-connected Parent Coordination training. We work with parents, children, and, when appropriate, attorneys and court professionals.

Reunification Therapy

For families dealing with parent-child estrangement or a strained relationship after a high-conflict separation or divorce. Reunification therapy is a structured, therapeutic process designed to rebuild trust, strengthen communication, and support healthy parent-child connection when a relationship has been disrupted.

We draw on family systems, attachment and trauma-informed care. The pace is set carefully, with the child's needs in view. The clinician may work from a retainer, and all fees are discussed during a short consultation.

Co-Parenting Therapy

For separated or divorced parents who want to communicate better and fight less in front of their kids. Together we will:

  • Identify the patterns that keep conflict going

  • Build collaborative problem-solving skills

  • Find ways to support your children consistently across two households

  • Work toward lower tension and more stability for the whole family

The approach is trauma-informed and centered on the child.

Parent Coordination

Parent coordination is a child-focused dispute-resolution process. It helps separated or divorced parents reduce conflict, communicate more effectively, and put their parenting plan into practice. We guide parents through disagreements about parenting schedules, extracurricular activities, education, healthcare and other child-related decisions, using a structured, solution-focused approach.

Parent coordination is both court-appointed and arranged by agreement of the parents. If parents cannot reach an agreement on their own, Kate makes a binding recommendation. That recommendation stands unless either party files a motion asking the judge to review and change it. The clinician may work from a retainer, and all fees are discussed during a short consultation.

Who this is for

  • Parents who want to rebuild a relationship with a child after a period of estrangement

  • Separated or divorced parents in ongoing conflict about parenting

  • Families whose attorney, mediator or court has suggested therapy or parent coordination
